課程概述

Course Synopsis

This course explores the nature of geographic knowledge from the classical
to the contemporary period. Emphasis will be placed on the major themes in
geography and the philosophical issues involved since the 1950s.
Leading contemporary intellectual currents in and emerging approaches to
geographic research will be examined. Guest lectures will be arranged to
supplement approaches in physical geography and GIS.

Assessment will be based on the quality of one term paper (期末書面報告40%),
oral presentations of assigned readings and final report, (指定報告及期末口頭
報告40%). classroom discussion (課堂參與20%). Paper topics should be
selected
as early as possible. They can be on any subject or person relevant to
the history of geography or geographic knowledge. It should be between 10 to
15 pages, typed in double space and complete with references. Oral resentation
of the paper will be held during the last two meetings, and handed in on the
week after the last meeting.
